Enthusiasm vs Apathy

This is WEEK 17 of the Character Development Series I am doing for 2012.  So glad you stopped by.

ENTHUSIASM!!!!!!  This is my daughter’s Baptism Day.  The enthusiasm that radiates from her face expresses the enthusiasm that the Christian should carry in their heart always…for we have known the love and unmerited grace of God and have been given NEW LIFE!!!!

Enthusiasm means:
1.  Intense and eager enjoyment, interest or approval

2. Great excitement in a subject or a cause.

Synonyms for Enthusiasm:  eagerness, excitement, energy, passion, zeal, interest, devotion
Antonyms for Enthusiasm:  apathetic, indifferent, disinterested, unexcited, bored, weary

What the Bible says about Enthusiasm:
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
2 Cor 9:7  Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Deuteronomy 6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Examples from the Bible:
King David: 2 Samuel 6: 12 – 15  So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.  Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

The Example of Jesus to Us:
Matt 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Personal Thoughts and Application:
I was very excited to see my daughter get baptised because it was a declaration of her decision to  embrace the joy and surrender of becoming a Child of God.  How many lost souls are out there restless and seeking.  How many of them are looking for something, some one to give purpose and meaning to their life.  How many of them might see that special enthusiasm in you that reflects the inner peace and joy only God’s spirit can give.  It’s not just through the good, and happy times that they watch us, however.  It’s also through the difficult and trying times that they look to see that we have something different about us that carries us through those challenges and that encourages us to not give up.  Enthusiasm is not about being a cheer leader and shouting for joy everywhere you go…sometimes enthusiasm is just sticking to a cause, and embracing a belief because you know it’s truth and worth clinging to.  In everything you do, no matter how mundane or ho-hum it may seem, greet each task you do with enthusiasm, because it does matter.  God says do it as unto me…and that’s reason enough to greet each day with enthusiasm.

Prayer For You:  May you carry the enthusiasm of being a Child of God everywhere you go.  May others see your enthusiasm reflected in your convictions, your perseverance, your good times and your challenges.  May your enthusiasm be a contagious zeal that draws others to the Spirit of God at work in your life.
