Personal Thoughts and Application:
Is anything sacred anymore? Are the younger generations being taught how to show reverence? When I was growing up, you sat still in church and you were well-behaved and quiet. If you went to some one else’s home, you were on ” best behavior” and you didn’t aggravate people or touch what didn’t belong to you. You displayed manners like “Please” and “Thank You” and if you were addressing an elder person, you said “Sir” or “Mam”. You waited your turn patiently in line and you had a concept that you were not the center of the universe. You walked around grave sites and you thanked God for the food you were about to eat.
As I look around at the behavior of the world today, I am amazed at how much disrespect and disregard abounds. The idea of reverence is fading from view. Places considered sacred are defaced and destroyed. Elders are scammed and ignored. Children do as they please and parents don’t blink an eye. Curse words and sexual references abound on TV and the radio. Women disrespect their own bodies by “putting their goods on public display”. OMG is said far more than PTL. The list goes on and on. How I hope that there are still those who know how to show reverence for the proper things, to show respect for other people and show due regard for what is sacred and holy….and more importantly that they are teaching these qualities to the next generation.
PRAYER FOR YOU: May you not forget that you represent God as His Child and He has entrusted you with the duty of showing reverence and respect to what He deems holy, reverence and respect for others, reverence and respect for those in authority over you, and reverence and respect for His Word and teachings. May you be an example to others and pass an appreciation of this reverence to the next generation…before there is nothing left that is considered sacred.
