Compassion versus Indifference

This is WEEK 6 of the Character Development Series I am doing for 2012.  So glad you stopped by.

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a 4-year-old child whose next-door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who recently had lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap and just sat there. When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”
We should strive to show Compassion and not indifference as we go through life.

A sympathy for the suffering of others, often including  a desire to help.

Synonyms for Compassion: empathy, sympathy, concern, kindness, consideration, care, benevolence

Attentiveness vs Unconcern

THIS is WEEK 2 of the Character Development Series I am doing for 2012.  So glad you stopped by.

Said the little boy, “Sometimes I drop my spoon.”
Said the little old man, ” I do that too.”
The little boy whispered, ” I wet my pants.”
“I do that too,” laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, “I often cry.”
The little old man nodded, “So do I.”
“But worst of all,” said the boy, “it seems
Grown-ups don’t pay attention to me,”
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
“I know what you mean,” said the little old man.
